Community Orchard

Quiz and Chips evening 14th October

Over 40 people took part in this great quiz compiled by John and Jackie Beswarick. The winning team, The Infamous Five were half a point ahead of the runners up Paper Planes!

We raised over £280 which will go towards the community orchard's maintenance budget, the purchase of trees and PL insurance. Thanks to all those that supported us.

Wine Tasting evening held on Friday 31st March

The History of Wine, presented by Rosie Bainbridge
Over 30 people enjoyed a selection of wines and accompanying food whilst learning many things about the history of wines.
Rosie treated us to wines from Argentina, South Africa, Chile, France and Italy explaining various facts about how wine growing developed in these countries.

If you're interested in learning more about wine, it's origins, comparisons between new world and old world etc then come along to one of the fortnightly Friday evening sessions at the Village Hall. See the 'Wine Appreciation Club' page for details.

It's not cliquie, it's very informal, and extremely enjoyable!

Our previous event:

Quiz and Chips Evening - November 2016

Over 60 people joined in with this great night out. The not-too-taxing questions were posed by John and Jackie Beswarick. The tasty fish, chips and mushy peas were supplied by Kedleston Rd Fish Bar and the whole event raised more than £450 towards the orchard funds. So we will be planting some more trees and bushes in the near future.

The Big Lunch - Sunday 12th June 2016

This year the weather forced us into the church but hey-ho it was a great community gathering.

As in the past five years we have supported the national initiative and held The Big Lunch at the Community Orchard site off Flagshaw Lane.
Regularly over 90 people bring along a dish or two to share and enjoy a fantastic spread with other villagers. The weather is usually great but if it isbn't we can all decant into the church.
The food, the wine, the community spirit is always tip top...

• log seating area • fun activities for young and old ‘kids’. • Tug of war • gazebos just in case it’s a
bit damp!

Tea and coffee will be available (you’ll need to bring your own plates, cutlery etc)

Enquiries: Helen/Godfrey Meynell 824815

    Work in progress
During the last year we have established a seating area as an array of 'planted' logs plus a bench. A start has been made on some willow structures with most of the willow 'whips' taking root. Spring 2013 should see much growth and further planting is planned to develop a 'tunnel' for kids to enjoy.
    Some piccies....

The community orchard has a great deal of support and advice from Robert Walker of Meynell Langley Gardens.
